Ideas, proposals and bug reports for New Working Methods

When converting pdf to word, all spaces are dropped

When exporting a document as pdf, and further converting/importing to MS word, it appears that all space characters just disappears. This functionality is needed when forwarding a draft document for internal review (including the form elements) within a company prior to providing a consolidated comment.

    Hi Ultan,

Thanks a lot for the workaround - seems that it brought me 95% of the way. A few things I noticed when using the Google drive/Google docs method is that the indent for some of the forms was "strange", meaning that the default indent for form number 1, second column was shifted too far left - and for the second form, third column had same issue. Not sure whether this comes from the pdf file or from Google's PDF conversion?

Anyway, this was useful trick to get a large part of the way.

    Thanks again!

Workaround: Convert PDF to Word using other methods.

    1. Adobe PDF converter: either with full Acrobat installed if anyone has it, or online at https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/pdf-to-word.html (may require creating an Adobe account for free). Not the best conversion result, but it preserves the spaces.

    2. https://pdf2docx.com/. Free online conversion tool (there are many, I’ve tested some and this is the best I’ve seen). Seems to produce better results than other tools (but not heavily tested). USE WITH CAUTION – we have no idea who is behind this tool. Do not use for anything confidential.

    3. Upload the PDF to Google Drive. Open it in Google Docs. Download as a Word file from Google Docs (File/Download/Microsoft Word). This is a bit more cumbersome but probably safer than the previous solution. Gives good results.

This happens when the document contains content pasted in from a Word file.
